Ljubljana has a vibrant artistic life. The prolific work of some of its artists has left a distinctive mark on the international art scene.
Museum of contemporary art (walking distance from Urban hotel 18 minutes): displays selected works of contemporary art from the Arteast 2000+ international collection and the MG+MSUM national collection.
City art gallery (walking distance from Urban hotel 6 minutes): runs its own and hosts travelling exhibitions of work by Slovenian and foreign artists of different fine art disciplines. The Museum’s exhibition programme is not limited to the European cultural area, but reaches out into the global cultural space.
National gallery (walking distance from Urban hotel 6 minutes): Slovenia’s foremost museum of historical art, holds the country’s largest collection of fine art from the High Middle Ages to the 20th century. It also houses a permanent exhibition of works by Zoran Mušič (1909–2005), one of Europe’s leading modernist painters, and various temporary exhibitions.
Tivoli mansion (walking distance from Urban hotel 12 minutes): the International Centre of Graphic Arts is a museum housing a collection of fine art prints from the 20th century to the present day, a gallery for exhibitions of contemporary fine art, a fine art print publisher with its own printmaking workshops and the producer of the Ljubljana International Biennial of Graphic Art. It has a collection of over 3,600 fine art prints, 800 artists’ books and numerous other art publications.
Tobačna 001 (walking distance from Urban hotel 15 minutes): cultural centre, located in the premises of Ljubljana’s former tobacco company, houses the Tobacco Museum and Galerija 001, a gallery hosting exhibitions of contemporary art.
